Maskal Foundation Award in Kamarhatu

The 7th June 2022 Ms Christina Deogam had invited me to her village Kamarhatu close to Chaibasa in the Hodesum. What followed was a complete surprise to me: a grand reception and an award from the Maskal Foundation for my work on the history of the HO tribe.

When a visitor comes for the first time in a house, tradition prescribes that their feet are washed first.
A group of HO scholars and other history lovers were eager to discuss points of HO history, which I had raised in my book.

We went in procession from Christina Deogam’s house to the village square. Here I am walking with her mother and grandmother.

And with Christina, who had organised this award ceremony so well.

At the village square, a grand reception.
The whole ceremony was very good natured.

The gathering had waited for this: under great approval.

Kamarhatu boasts of a well furnished library, where I was welcomed.
It was my honour to get the Maskal Foundation Award in Kamarhatu!

Back home: The award gets the pride of place
